Sabo Finishes Sixth in Decathlon at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Alex Sabo finished with 4728 points to finish sixth out of 13 competitors in the decathlon on the second day of the Messiah Multi. Carolina Wegman was 20th in the heptathlon with 2453 points.
 
Sabo started day two with a time of 22.03 seconds in the 110 hurdles to score 207 points. He threw the discus a career-best 28.81 meters (94'6") to score 441 points before recording a height of 2.90 meters (9'6.25") in the pole vault to score 333 points. Sabo threw the javelin 42.13 meters (138'3") to score 473 points and ended the competition with a time of 5:48.34 in the 1500 meters to score 271 points.
 
Wegman had two field events and a track event on day two of the heptathlon. Her day started with the long jump where she recorded a mark of 4.05 meters (13'3.5") to score 319 points. She threw the javelin 17.74 meters (58'2") to score 247 points and then finished the day with a time of 3:17.05 in the 800 to score 223 points.
 
Both Sabo and Wegman qualified for the MAC Championships with their point totals. Wegman's point total puts her in the record books at ninth in program history.
 
LVC will be back at Messiah tomorrow for the Messiah Invitational while a few student-athletes also compete at Bucknell this weekend.
