UTICA, N.Y. – Victoria Scurto and
Ioanna Christou scored goals for the Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey team in a hard-fought 4-2 defeat to 12th-ranked Utica University on the Pioneers home ice of the Nexus Center in Utica.
The Dutchmen (8-11-1, 5-9-1 UCHC) battled the conference-leading Pioneers (17-1-2, 14-0-1) tough all game in the first game of the weekend series. Utica tallied two first period goals scoring the first goal of the game at the 13:37 mark. A little over a minute later the second goal was scored. The Pioneers increased their lead to 3-0 five minutes into the second period. LVC cut the lead to 3-1 eight minutes into the third period as Scurto found the back of the net off an assist from
Katrina Strauts. Utica responded with an unassisted goal a minute later. Christou finished the scoring at 15:44 with her sixth goal of the season off an assist from
Alexis Oukes.
Inside the Box Score
- Scurto tallied her third goal of the year and ninth of her career on two shots.
- Oukes recorded her fourth assist of the season while Strauts tallied her team-leading eighth assist of the year.
- Brenna Mulcahy and Tiffany Anderson led the Dutchmen in shots on goal with three each. Anderson also won a team-high nine faceoffs.
- Irina Brady won eight faceoffs while Katie Pounder won six.
- Shelby Guinard stopped 13 shots in each period to finish with 39 saves.
