RYE, N.Y. – Darion Benchich and
Brad Viola scored two goals each for the Lebanon Valley men's ice hockey team is a heartbreaking 7-6 defeat to host Manhattanville College after rallying from a 4-1 deficit to take a third period lead.
The Valiants scored the first two goals of the game in the opening five minutes of the first period. Lebanon answered right back as
Brenden Yingling sent a shot into the back of the net at the 5:14 mark to cut the lead in half.
Mark Kishko and
Chris Mingus had assists on the goal. The second period started off with Manhattanville scoring a pair of goals to take a 4-1 lead. Benchich started the comeback with his first goal of the game off passes from Viola and
Blake Tosto at 6:55 of the period. Benchich didn't wait long to score his second goal as he stole the puck and scored seven seconds later to bring the Dutchmen within one.
The Valiants scored a short-handed goal five minutes into the third period to go up by two goals. LVC then scored three goals in a span of three minutes to take a 6-5 lead. Viola struck first at 7:22 off assists by Tosto and
Cade Freer.
Haralds Jirgens and
Mason Proskin then set up Viola for the game-tying goal at 9:35.
Harris Blackwood gave the Dutchmen the lead with his fifth goal of the year at 10:25. Freer and Miller assisted on the play. The Valiants managed to tie the game up on a goal with 16 seconds remaining. They then scored the game-winner in the final seconds right before time expired.

- Viola led the Dutchmen with three points on two goals and an assist. The senior has 31 career points on 17 goals and 14 assists.
- Benchich recorded the second multi-goal game of his career and has now recorded points in each of the last three games.
- Tosto and Freer each had two assists.
- Blackwood continued his strong play with a goal in his third consecutive game to give him five on the season.
- Ty Franchi made 46 saves in goal. He has stopped at least 45 shots in each of his last four games.
