HERSHEY, Pa. – Dylan Gutierrez and
Haralds Jirgens scored goal for the Lebanon Valley men's ice hockey team in a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to King's College on Friday evening at Hersheypark Arena.
The teams played a scoreless first period that was interrupted by a 15-minute delay due to an issue with the ice 13 minutes into the game. LVC outshot the Monarchs 13-6 in the period. The Dutchmen got on the board early in the second period as Gutierrez ripped a shot from just inside the blue line that found the back of the net 1:15 in.
Harris Blackwood and
Dylan Miller received assists on the goal. King's scored two back-to-back goals at 7:39 and 8:17 of the period to take a 2-1 lead. The Monarchs held onto the lead going into the third period.
LVC evened things up 1:50 into the final period as Jirgens redirected a shot from
Brenden Yingling into goal. Blackwood was once again involved in the play and recorded his second assist of the game. The Dutchmen had a few excellent chances to take the lead but were unable to convert hitting the pipe twice in the final period. The Dutchmen pulled their goalie with just under 90 seconds to play needing a regulation win to keep their playoff hopes alive. LVC had three shots saves with the extra attacker before the Monarchs were able to get the puck down the ice and score the game-winner with 41 seconds left.

- Gutierrez scored his second career goal and has now scored in two straight games.
- Jirgens also scored his second goal of the season.
- Blackwood recorded two assists and has now recorded at least one point in four of the last five games. It was his second multi-point game of the year.
- Gutierrez and Max Loga led the team with six shots apiece.
- Blake Tosto was great on faceoffs winning 17 and losing just seven.
- Gabriel Pigeon made a career-high 33 saves in goal stopping 15 shots in the third period and 12 in the second.
