Scurto Scores Power-Play Goal Against Albertus Magnus

SALEM, Mass. – Victoria Scurto gave the Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey a 2-1 second period lead with a power-play goal but Albertus Magnus College rallied to defeat the Dutchmen 3-2 on the first day of the Viking Cup in Salem, Massachusetts.

The Dutchmen started strong winning the opening faceoff and putting five shots on goal within the first seven minutes. Four of those shots came during the first power-play opportunity of the game as Grace Mayer, Anna Dale, and Brenna Mulcahy each had shots stopped by the AMC goaltender. The Falcons capitalized off a Dutchmen turnover inside the blue line with a quick shot that went into the back of the net at 8:27 for the first goal of the game. LVC had a pair of power-plays but were unable to even the score up during the opportunities as Albertus took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Katie Pounder was able to even the score up 1:36 into the second period with her second goal of the year. Alexa Spiers recorded an assist on the goal following a trio of saves by the AMC goalie leading up to the goal. The Dutchmen kept the pressure on the Falcons as they put four shots on goal in the following five minutes of play while holding AMC without a shot. LVC broke through for the go-ahead goal at 8:01 as Scurto scored 31 seconds into the start of a power-play opportunity. Dale and Alexis Oukes set Scurto up and received assists on the play. LVC won the following faceoff and kept shooting as Tiffany Anderson, Cheyenne Wilk and Meaghan Howson all had shots stopped. The Falcons managed to tie the game up at 11:11 with a power-play goal. Both teams had four shots over the last nine minutes of the period but neither team was able to score.

The Dutchmen earned another power-play opportunity early in the third period and went to work putting shots on goal. Scurto and Oukes had attempts saved before Ava Waugaman had her shot stopped. The Dutchmen kept the shots coming against the Falcons but were unable to light the lamp for the go-ahead goal. Albertus Magnus scored at 13:02 with a quick shot off the faceoff then squeezed past a couple of defenders and into the back of the net. The Dutchmen pushed for the equalizer but were unable to score as Albertus Magnus came away with the victory.
