SALEM, Mass. – Goaltender
Jorja Fisher made 17 saves for the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, as the program dropped a close 1-0 game on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Rockett Arena. The teams faced off in the consolation game of the Viking Cup.
The Flying Dutchmen and the Trailblazers went back and forth defensively in the first period, keeping each other off the scoreboard during the first 20 minutes of the game. Fisher played a key role in limiting the opposition, saving all six shots that came her way in the frame. The Dutchmen were also aggressive offensively early, attempting four shots on goal within the first 3:30 of the contest.
Madelynn Debelis and
Cheyenne Wilk contributed to these offensive opportunities, as they each took a shot within 18 seconds during the first minute. LVC registered a total of 15 shots in the period.
Defense remained the story in period two, as Lebanon Valley and MCLA kept each other in check. Fisher continued to deliver a strong effort on the defensive end, making six more saves for the Flying Dutchmen. The goaltender recorded two clutch saves within 43 seconds, making the stops in a stretch that began in the fifth minute. The program also worked to generate scoring chances in the second, sending 12 shots toward the net during the frame. Nine different players took shots for LVC in the period, including two attempts each by
Anna Dale,
Tiffany Anderson and Wilk. The squads entered the final period in a scoreless tie.
The Dutchmen kept sending shots toward the goaltender when the third period began, tallying seven shots in the first six minutes. Dale,
Maeghan Howson and
Erin Yorke each took shots during the second minute of the frame. The Trailblazers then opened the scoring 9:48 into the third period, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Becky Ade. The Dutchmen continued to create scoring chances as the frame went on, taking six shots on goal during the remaining 10:12 of the game. Dale and Anderson contributed to these efforts, attempting shots within 10 seconds of each other during the 12
th minute. Ultimately, this score was maintained through the end of the contest.
