HERSHEY, Pa. – Dylan Miller and
Tanner Tolliver both scored a goal and recorded an assist for the Lebanon Valley College men's ice hockey team, as the program dropped a 7-2 game to Chatham University on Friday, Dec. 8, at Hersheypark Arena.
The Dutchmen got their offense rolling early, jumping out to a 1-0 lead over the Cougars 5:36 into the game. Tolliver got the squad on the board by sending a shot past the goaltender, following an assist by Miller. Lebanon Valley found the net again 10:09 into the first period, extending its advantage to 2-0. This time, Miller scored a goal of his own while the assists were credited to
Ethan Hoover and Tolliver.
LVC also got the job done defensively during the opening frame, keeping the opposition scoreless for the majority of the period. Goaltender
Chris Branch helped limit Chatham early, making 14 saves through the first 19 minutes. The Cougars got on the scoreboard with just over 43 seconds remaining in the period, trimming their deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Andrew Martino.
Chatham evened the score 37 seconds into the second period, making it a 2-2 contest on a goal by Caden Smith. The Cougars scored again 17 seconds later, taking a 3-2 lead on another goal by Martino. The Flying Dutchmen battled defensively as the frame progressed, as Branch made five saves over the next 4:50. Chatham then added a point 5:45 into the second, advancing the score to 4-2 on a goal by Kadsen Johnson.
The programs followed this by going back and forth on the defensive end, keeping each other off the board until less than five minutes remained in the second period. Lebanon Valley attempted to generate offensive opportunities throughout the frame, taking 11 shots on goal.
Darion Benchich led the squad with three shots on goal during the second. The Cougars resumed the scoring with 4:37 to go, extending their advantage to 5-2 on a goal by Michael Roby. Zack Conner later tallied a goal for Chatham with 28 seconds left in the period, making it a 6-2 game.
The Cougars then tacked on a point 4:32 into the third period, advancing the score to 7-2 on a goal by Nicholas Babbie.
Haralds Jirgens then attempted to create some scoring chances for the Flying Dutchmen, taking three shots on goal during the remaining minutes of the contest. Goaltender
Jadon Lee also helped limit Chatham in the final frame, making 13 saves in the last 20 minutes. Ultimately, the squads kept each other scoreless through the end of the contest.
