ANNVILLE, Pa. – The regular season has come to a close as a few of our teams looked to claim some final spots in their playoff races. This recap covers the last week of the regular season and where all our teams stand going into playoffs.
Rocket League— Last week, Rocket League played three matches in total. On Monday and Tuesday, the team closed out NACE play with the help of their substitute player Brycen Geiger for both matches. Starting against North Dakota State on Monday, Rocket League continued to show their dominance with a quick 3-0 victory outsourcing their opponents 18-4 across the series. The momentum led into Tuesday where the team would again cruise to a 3-0 victory, this time over Manchester University where they would outscore the Spartans 12-6 over the series. Their final regular season match of the fall saw them take on the University of Delaware where a win would get them into the playoffs. In the end, the Hens had their way and took the final playoff spot from LVC, barring a 3-0 loss for Saint Mary's University in their final match against University of Massachusetts. The team has a bye week in their NACE playoff bracket as the first seed in the division and will play after Thanksgiving break.
Valorant— Valorant took on University of Ottawa on Monday night needing a win to make the playoffs. Despite putting their best effort out there, the team dropped a 2-0 series to fall out of the playoff race. This ends the fall season for Valroant as they look to come back stronger for the Spring.
Rainbow Six— After a long stretch of matches last week, Rainbow Six had just one more meeting in the regular season as they faced North Dakota last week. Both teams had already clinched playoffs with the match determining seeding in the division as the second or third seed. In a very close series, North Dakota took map one and put the Dutchmen on the back foot going into map two of the best of three. LVC stepped up as they brought things together to win the series, as Michael Schneider gave one of his best performances of the year. Schneider had a series ending ace (when a single player eliminates the entire opposing team on their own) on map three to claim the second seed in playoffs. The team now awaits the release of the NECC bracket for their regional playoff. They will begin NACE playoffs this Thursday when they take on Kennesaw State in the first round as the 11th seed.
Overwatch— Going into the week, Overwatch needed to win just one map to clinch a spot in the playoffs. It would not come easy though as they were set to take on the top team in their division who had only dropped two total maps coming into the match. After maps one and two, things looked a bit bleak for the team as they were down 2-0 and possibly out of a playoff spot. Then, on map three, they would do just enough to get a 3-1 victory on Flashpoint to get their map victory and lock up their spot in the playoffs. They dropped game four and the series, 3-1 but will now await the playoff bracket where they will take on the first seed from the Emergents Mideast A Division.
