Kutzler and Kissinger Receive MAC Player of the Week Honors

10/9/2023 1:52:00 PM

NEWTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College football team took home two of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) weekly awards for its performance against Widener University, as announced on Monday in a release by the conference office. Junior defensive back Evan Kutzler was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week and junior kicker Tim Kissinger was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week.

Kutzler had a huge day on defense to lead the Dutchmen to a thrilling 27-24 double overtime victory at Widener. The junior safety had two interceptions for 36 yards, three tackles, a pass breakup, and a quarterback hurry. The free safety's first interception came with just over a minute left in the half as he picked off a pass at the Widener 35 and returned it to the 18. The Dutchmen were able to kick a field goal as the half ended to take a 10-3 lead following the interception. On Widener's first drive of the second half, Kutzler hurried the quarterback into a bad pass on fourth and eight at the LVC 25. Kutzler intercepted his second pass of the game late in the fourth quarter as he stopped a Widener drive at the LVC 11 and returned the ball 19 yards to the 30 with 2:24 left in regulation and LVC holding onto a 17-14 lead.

Kissinger was a big part of the double overtime victory at Widener kicking the game-winning field goal. The junior was 2-for-3 on field goal attempts in the game making a 45-yard attempt as time expired in the first half and kicking a 20-yard attempt in the second overtime session to win the game. He missed a 30-yard attempt in the fourth quarter. Kissinger was also 3-for-3 on extra point attempts and had averaged 62.0 yards on two kickoffs.

This is the first time that Kutzler has won the weekly award in his career. The defensive back is the third member of the Dutchmen to receive the honor this year, joining senior cornerback Nick Morder and junior linebacker Brody Robinson. Kissinger was named Special Teams Player of the Week for the second straight week that LVC competed, marking the second time this season and in the junior's career that he has been recognized.

The Dutchmen return to action at noon Saturday, as the program will host King's College at Arnold Field for its Homecoming Game.
