ANNVILLE, Pa. – Six players recorded points during the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team's 3-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Campus on Saturday at Herbert Field.
Lebanon Valley (9-1-1, 2-0-0 MAC Freedom) defeated FDU-Florham (7-2-2, 0-2-0) behind contributions from several players. The Flying Dutchmen set the tone early, netting a pair of shots during the first half. The program's defense also dominated during the opening stanza, limiting the Devils to just two shots. LVC then tacked on another goal and shut out the opposition in the second half, which sealed the victory.
The Dutchmen opened the scoring early in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead over the Devils 10:23 into the game. Junior forward
Aaron Weitzel took the team's first shot of the day and got the squad on the board with a goal that sailed into the upper-left corner of the net. The forward's fifth goal of the season was assisted by first-year
Charlie Kramer. LVC remained aggressive offensively over the next 20:52, taking a total of seven shots in this span.
Lebanon Valley put another tally on the scoreboard 31:55 into the game, extending its advantage to 2-0. The Dutchmen got the Devils' defense out of position, allowing sophomore forward
Nathan Prex to kick a shot into the center of the net. The forward's 15
th goal of the campaign was the result of an assist by sophomore
Ethan Groff. LVC then held the opposition to just one shot during the remainder of the first half, providing the team with a two-goal lead entering halftime.
Both squads were productive on the defensive end at the beginning of the second half, keeping each other from finding the net for over 24 minutes into the stanza. The Flying Dutchmen and Devils generated some scoring opportunities during this stretch as LVC registered five attempts and FDU-Florham took four shots. Three of the opposition's attempts were on goal and each of them were saved by senior goalkeeper
Dalton Fitterling.
Lebanon Valley added an insurance point 69:29 into the game, making it a 3-0 ballgame. First-year
Abass Ndiaye sent a header into the upper-left corner of the net for his first collegiate goal. The team's third goal of the afternoon was assisted by first-year
Tyler Wescott.
The Flying Dutchmen then continued to play solid defense during the remainder of the contest, holding the Devils to one shot the rest of the game. The team kept FDU-Florham from finding the net during the final 20:31, securing the win.
