Fitterling Makes Six Saves Against Alvernia

READING, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper Dalton Fitterling made six saves during the No. 21 Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team's 0-0 tie with Alvernia University on Tuesday night at Alvernia Turf Field.

Lebanon Valley (9-1-2, 2-0-0 MAC Freedom) and Alvernia (6-5-1, 2-0-0 MAC Commonwealth) battled defensively all evening, keeping each other from getting on the scoreboard. Fitterling delivered a big game for the Dutchmen, as he saved all six of the Golden Wolves' shots on goal. LVC was also aggressive offensively during the contest, taking a total of 11 shots.

The defenses of both programs dominated from the start, limiting scoring chances for the opposition in the first half. The Dutchmen took two shots during the opening stanza, with the program's first shot on goal being attempted 22:30 into the game by junior forward Aaron Weitzel. Lebanon Valley held Alvernia to just one shot on goal during the half as well, despite the Golden Wolves taking a total of six shots. Fitterling made a save on forward Ryan Cogill's shot 15:21 into the contest. The squads went into halftime tied at 0-0.

The teams continued to generate scoring opportunities when the second half began, as the programs sent more shots towards the goal. The Flying Dutchmen took nine total shots and seven shots on goal in the half. Sophomore forward Nathan Prex helped lead these efforts, attempting four shots on goal in the second half.

The Golden Wolves tried to get their offense rolling as well, registering five shots on goal in the second. Fitterling delivered a clutch performance during the half, saving all five shots that came his way. Alvernia attempted three shots on goal in less than three minutes, in a stretch that began at the 59th minute. The senior goalkeeper saved all three shots during this span, helping preserve the score. Ultimately, neither team found the net and the contest concluded in a scoreless tie.
