ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore forward
Nathan Prex found the net twice during the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team's 4-3 victory over Delaware Valley University on Homecoming Saturday at Herbert Field.
The Flying Dutchmen (10-1-2, 3-0-0 MAC Freedom) defeated the Aggies (3-8-2, 0-3-0) on a rainy afternoon behind offensive contributions from several players. Lebanon Valley scored three times during the first half, while Delaware Valley also netted a shot. The Aggies put a pair of points on the board in the second stanza, but a late goal by LVC proved to be the difference in the contest.
Lebanon Valley got its offense rolling early, taking a 1-0 lead 7:27 into the game. Prex opened the scoring by sending a shot into the right side of the net, following an assist by sophomore
Aidan Smith. The Dutchmen put another tally on the board 27:47 into the contest, extending their advantage to 2-0 over the Aggies. Prex delivered his second goal of the afternoon with a penalty kick shot that went past the goalkeeper.
Delaware Valley got on the scoreboard 37:13 into the half, making it a 2-1 game on a goal by Pierce Marks. Lebanon Valley got this point back with just 48 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, taking a 3-1 lead. Coming off a free kick,
Ethan Groff sent a shot into the lower-right corner of the net to put the squad up by two entering halftime.
The Aggies attempted to get back into the game early in the second half, trimming their deficit to 3-2 on a goal by Prince Mugisha 5:29 into the stanza. The programs then battled defensively as the half progressed, as neither team found the net again until there were just over three minutes left in the game. LVC's defense was productive during this stretch, holding the opposition to just five total shots without a shot on goal.
The Dutchmen resumed the scoring 86:52 into the game, extending their lead to 4-2 over the Aggies. Senior
Aidan Negron kicked a shot into the lower left corner of the net, following an assist by Prex. Delaware Valley responded just 14 seconds later, making it a 4-3 game on a penalty kick goal by Marks. LVC's defense then kept the opposition from finding the net during the remaining minutes to secure the win.
