CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Sorrell Long had an assist and scored the game-tying goal on a penalty stroke in a tough 4-3 double overtime defeat for the Lebanon Valley field hockey team in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom opener at DeSales University in Center Valley.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first in the third minute as Maddie Trocki was able to score on a penalty stroke. DeSales made it 2-0 in the 25th minute with a tip in shot off a corner attempt. The Dutchmen battled back and put pressure on the DeSales defense as they looked to cut the lead in half before halftime. The goal came in the 28th minute as Claire Weidenhammer scored on a rocket shot from just inside the circle off an assist by Long. Weidenhammer nearly tied the game up a couple minutes later as her shot got pass the Bulldog keeper, but a defender was in front of the cage to keep the shot out for a defensive save.

Weidenhammer continued her attempts to tie the score in the second half as she had back-to-back shots saved in the 33rd minute. The Bulldogs were able to increase their lead to 3-1 with a tipped in shot after a Lauren Jancsarics save in the 38th minute. The Dutchmen came right down the field and earned a penalty corner. Emily Kline had her shot blocked before Rebecca Lane scored on a redirected ball in front of cage from Gracie Johnson. The Dutchmen continued the pressure into the fourth quarter and had two great opportunities to score in the 56th minute as Johnson and Weidenhammer had shots saved. The Dutchmen were awarded a penalty stroke off the rebound of the second save. Long sent the stroke into the back of the cage for her second penalty stroke goal of the year tying the game up at three.
