ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team dropped its matchup against York College of Pennsylvania 3-0 on Wednesday at Herbert Field.
Lebanon Valley (2-4-2, 0-1-0 MAC Freedom) and York (7-4-0, 1-0-0 MAC Commonwealth) went back-and-forth in a close battle, limiting offensive chances throughout the contest. The Spartans added a goal towards the end of the first half and netted two shots in the second stanza, which proved to be the difference in the game. Senior goalkeeper
Jocelyn Umana posted a solid performance, making seven saves.
The Flying Dutchmen and Spartans both delivered strong defensive efforts in the first half, keeping the score even at 0-0 until the squads were over 36 minutes into the game. Umana made three saves during the opening stanza, as LVC held York to four shots on goal during the first 45 minutes. Lebanon Valley also attempted to create some scoring opportunities in the first, taking three shots.
The Spartans opened the scoring 36:13 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Morgan Joyce. The programs kept each other off the board during the remaining minutes of the first half, prompting the game to remain 1-0 York going into halftime.
Lebanon Valley was effective defensively at the beginning of the second half, keeping York scoreless during the first 19-plus minutes, despite the squad taking four shots in this stretch. The Dutchmen also tried to generate some scoring chances, as sophomore midfielder
Jordan Lasky took a shot on goal 12:40 into the half.
The Spartans added a point 64:31 into the game, making it a 2-0 ballgame on a goal by Ashlynn Weger. York tacked on another 72:07 into the contest, extending its advantage to 3-0 on a goal by Julianna Schilling. The Flying Dutchmen continued to compete until the final minute, as the team kept the opposition off the board in the final 17:53. Senior forward
Sierra Young also took a pair of shots during this stretch. Ultimately, neither team found the net through the remainder of the game.
