CORTLAND, N.Y. – Blake Tosto and
Harris Blackwood scored goals in the third period as the Lebanon Valley men's ice hockey team began the season with a tough 10-2 defeat at SUNY Cortland on Friday evening.
The Dutchmen and Red Dragon battled back-and-forth for the first half of the first period with neither team able to get on the scoreboard. Cortland scored first at 13:26 of the period. The Dutchmen had two shots on goal by
Ethan Hoover and
Jackson Legro that were saved before the Red Dragons were able to score a second goal at 14:33. LVC battled tough with five shots on goal the rest of the period but all five were saved.
The Red Dragons used a big five-goal second period to take a 7-0 lead. After holding a 17-11 shot advantage in the first period, Cortland took 32 shots in the second period while LVC put seven shots on goal. Cortland added two more goals in the third period before Tosto put the Dutchmen on the board with his 21st career goal.
Mason Proskin and Hoover assisted on the play. The Red Dragons responded with a goal of their own and then the Dutchmen wrapped up the scoring as Blackwood tallied his eighth career goal of an assist from
Jered Stevenson.
