GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper
Jocelyn Umana made five saves for the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team on Wednesday, as the team dropped a close 1-0 game against Arcadia University at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion.
Lebanon Valley (5-7-2, 2-4-0 MAC Freedom) and Arcadia (9-9-0, 4-2-0 MAC Freedom) battled on the defensive end throughout the game, as the squads held each other in check. The programs went back-and-forth on in the first half, limiting each other's opportunities to find the net. The Knights put a point on the board in the first stanza and took the advantage into halftime. Both teams continued to send shots towards the net in the second half, but the early goal proved to be the difference in the contest.
The Knights opened the scoring 7:14 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Madison Toyama. Arcadia then attempted a pair of shots on goal within a span of 32 seconds in the 30
th minute, but Umana made two important saves to maintain the score. The Flying Dutchmen were solid defensively in the opening stanza, holding the opposition to just three shots on goal.
Lebanon Valley's first shot on goal of the night came 38:59 into the contest, as sophomore
Jordan Lasky sent a shot towards the net. Neither squad managed to get on the board during the remainder of the half, providing the Knights with a 1-0 advantage entering halftime.
The programs continued to showcase dominant defense in the second half, halting the opposition's offensive efforts. The Dutchmen held the Knights to six total shots in the second half with three shots on goal. Umana saved each of the shots that came in her direction during the final 45 minutes.
Lebanon Valley also created some chances offensively during the half, taking four total shots. Junior
Darrian Berkheimer contributed to these efforts, attempting a shot on goal 78:42 into the game. The squads the battled in the remaining minutes, but neither team put a point on the scoreboard in this stretch.
