Umana Makes 12 Saves in Women’s Soccer’s Season Finale Against Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. ­­– Senior goalkeeper Jocelyn Umana made 12 saves on Saturday, as the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team dropped its final game of the season by a score of 4-0 against Stevens Institute of Technology, at the DeBaun Athletic Complex. 

Lebanon Valley (5-8-2, 2-5-0 MAC Freedom) battled against Stevens (8-6-2, 6-1-0 MAC Freedom) all afternoon, delivering a strong effort in the contest. The Flying Dutchmen competed valiantly on the defensive end, limiting the Ducks in their scoring opportunities. Stevens found the net once in the first half, but the program extended its advantage with three goals in the second stanza. 

Stevens opened the scoring 11:03 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Rachel Rouse. But Lebanon Valley was dominant defensively during the remainder of the first half, keeping the opposition off the board. The Ducks took a total of 18 shots in the first 45 minutes, including seven shots on goal. Umana made six saves during the opening half of play. 

The Dutchmen also attempted to generate some scoring chances in the first half, taking three shots. Sophomore Jordan Lasky attempted the team's first shot of the day 7:39 into the game. Ultimately, Stevens took a one-goal advantage into halftime. 

The Ducks resumed the scoring 53:31 into the game, extending its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Luciana Rodrigues. Stevens then added a goal by Elsa Bley, advancing the score to 3-0 61:06 into the contest. This was followed by first-year Abrielle Miller taking a shot on goal for Lebanon Valley just 54 seconds later. The Ducks put another point on the board 69:42 into the game, making it a 4-0 contest with another goal by Bley.

Umana also posted a solid performance in half two, making six more saves after 17 total shots by Stevens. The senior goalkeeper made a pair of saves within a span of nine seconds, when there were just over eight minutes to go in the contest.

  • Lasky, senior Sierra Young and first-year Delaynie Reyes each took a shot.

The Flying Dutchmen concluded the 2023 season with a 5-8-2 overall record and a 2-5-0 conference mark during their first year in the MAC Freedom.
