ANNVILLE, Pa. – Eight players recorded points during the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team's 5-1 Senior Day victory over King's College on Saturday at Herbert Field. The program clinched a postseason berth with the win, earning a spot in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Championship.
Lebanon Valley (11-1-3, 4-0-1 MAC Freedom) defeated King's (5-8-1, 1-3-1 MAC Freedom) behind an offensive clinic, scoring five goals or more for the fourth time this season. Before the game, the program honored its five seniors:
Dalton Fitterling,
Connor Given,
Kevin Donahue,
Aidan Negron and
Charlie McCormick. Once the game began, the Dutchmen set the tone in the first half by netting a goal and playing stellar defense. LVC then went on to score four times in the second half, cruising to its fourth conference win.
The Dutchmen struck first in this one, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead over the Monarchs. Given took a free kick from the top of the circle 18:56 into the game, and he sent the kick past the diving attempt of the goalkeeper. Lebanon Valley was dominant on the defensive end during the remainder of the first half, limiting King's to just one shot over the next 26:04. LVC took this one-goal advantage into halftime.
Lebanon Valley didn't waste any time getting its offense rolling at the start of the second half, extending its lead to 2-0 just 2:37 into the stanza. Graduate student
Lucas Strange put the squad up by two with a shot into the left side of the net, following an assist by sophomore
Nathan Prex. The Monarchs responded 64:30 into the contest, making it a 2-1 ballgame on a goal by Dylan Domchek.
The Flying Dutchmen answered back just 3:26 later, advancing the score to 3-1. Negron helped increase the team's lead with a shot that ended up in the back of the net, courtesy of an assist by junior
Aaron Weitzel. Lebanon Valley wasn't done there, extending its advantage to 4-1 over King's 72:35 into the game on a goal by first-year
Will Burton. Sophomore
Ethan Groff recorded the assist on Burton's second goal of the year.
The Dutchmen then added an insurance goal 84:44 into the game, taking a commanding 5-1 lead. Coming off a free kick taken by Given, first-year
Abass Ndiaye sent a header into the right side of the net to put LVC up by four. The Monarchs attempted to generate scoring chances in the remaining minutes, as the team took a shot that was saved by Fitterling with 39 seconds left. Ultimately, Lebanon Valley would go on to secure the victory.
