Abrielle Miller netted a pair of goals during the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team's 3-1 victory over Delaware Valley University in Saturday's Homecoming and Senior Day matchup at Herbert Field.
Lebanon Valley (5-4-2, 2-1-0 MAC Freedom) defeated Delaware Valley (7-6-2, 0-2-1 MAC Freedom) on a rainy afternoon to pick up its third consecutive win. Before the game, the program honored its seven seniors:
Jocelyn Umana,
Reagan McCarty,
Emma Houck,
Lauren Weaver,
Kaitlyn Brumbaugh,
Sierra Young and
Madison McDonald. During the contest, the Flying Dutchmen and the Aggies swapped a pair of goals in the first half, before LVC scored again later in the stanza to take a one-goal advantage. The Dutchmen added another goal in the second half, allowing the squad to cruise to the victory.
The Aggies opened the scoring 15:19 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead over the Flying Dutchmen on a goal by Savannah Rennix. Lebanon Valley was aggressive offensively throughout the first half, attempting to get on the board with 10 shots through the first 25-plus minutes. The Dutchmen then found the net 31:10 into the game, tying it up at 1-1. Miller evened the score by sending a shot into the lower-left corner of the net, following an assist by senior forward
Kaitlyn Brumbaugh.
Lebanon Valley tacked on another just 2:31 later, taking a 2-1 advantage against Delaware Valley. Sophomore midfielder
Jordan Lasky put the squad ahead by kicking a shot past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net, courtesy of an assist by McCarty. The Dutchmen took this one-goal advantage into halftime.
The teams battled defensively at the beginning of the second half, maintaining the score for the first 11:36 of the stanza. The Dutchmen took a pair of shots during this stretch, while defensively, Umana saved a shot on goal by the Aggies 45:03 into the contest.
The Flying Dutchmen added an insurance point 56:36 into the game, making it a 3-1 ballgame. Miller scored her second goal of the day with a shot that sailed into the left corner of the net, courtesy of an assist by Lasky. Delaware Valley attempted to get back into the game after facing this two-goal deficit, taking eight shots during the remaining 33:24 of the contest. Ultimately, LVC's defense would keep the opposition of the board during this span to secure the victory.
