ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior forward
Sierra Young netted a goal near the end of the first half to help lead the Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Hood College on Tuesday at Herbert Field.
Lebanon Valley (4-4-2, 1-1-0 MAC Freedom) received dominant defense and a timely goal against Hood (3-7-3, 0-0-2 MAC Commonwealth), leading the program to its second consecutive win. This game was a defensive battle throughout, as shots on goal were limited for both squads. After LVC put a tally on the board in the opening stanza, the team went on to blank the opposition during the remainder of the contest.
The Flying Dutchmen attempted to create some scoring opportunities in the first half, taking a total of seven shots with four shots on goal. The Blazers sent some shots towards the net in the stanza as well, making four total attempts with a pair of shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Jocelyn Umana saved both shots that came her way in the first. The squads managed to keep each other off the board for the majority of the half, as the game was scoreless for over 43 minutes at the start.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring with just 1:28 remaining in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead over Hood. Coming off a free kick taken by senior
Reagan McCarty, Young sent a shot into the left corner of the net to get the squad on the board. The Flying Dutchmen took this one-goal advantage into halftime.
Defense was also the story in half two, as the programs continued to hold each other in check. Lebanon Valley remained aggressive on offense, taking four shots on goal during frame. The Dutchmen limited the Blazers to just three total shots in the stanza, while Umana also saved the opposition's two shots on goal. Ultimately, neither team found the net in the second half, securing the win for LVC.
