Blackwood Scores Twice for Men’s Ice Hockey At Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Harris Blackwood scored a career-high two goals to propel the Lebanon Valley men's ice hockey team to earning another conference point with their second straight heart-breaking 4-3 overtime defeat at Wilkes University on Saturday at the Toyota SportsPlex in Wilkes-Barre.
 
The game played out similar to Friday night's contest as the Colonels scored twice in the opening period to take the lead. Both of Blackwood's goals came in the second period to even things up. His first goal came at 10:21 off assists by Dylan Gutierrez and Mason Proskin. His game-tying goal came almost five minutes later on the power play. Jordan Stear and Darion Benchich had the assists on the play.
 
The Dutchmen took the lead in the third period as Blake Tosto added a power play goal off assists from Gutierrez and Dylan Miller. Wilkes was able to tie the game up at three and the teams played their second overtime game of the weekend. The Colonels scored 3:11 into the extra session to take the extra conference point away the Dutchmen.

  • Blackwood concluded his three-goal weekend with his fourth and fifth career goals on three shots.
  • Tosto scored his second goal of the weekend for his 35th career point. He led the team with six shots.
  • Gutierrez had two assists for his first career multi-point game.
  • Benchich recorded the 20th assist of his career and his second of the weekend.
  • Ty Franchi had another strong night in goal with 46 saves to give him 91 on the weekend. He stopped 17 shots in the first, 11 in the second, 15 in the third, and then three in overtime.

Lebanon Valley will continue their road stand next weekend at Manhattanville. Friday's game will start at 7 p.m. at the Playland Ice Casino in Rye.
