ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team had a game for the record books on Wednesday afternoon at Herbert Field with an 8-0 victory over visiting Penn State Berks.
The Dutchmen scored four goals in each half and assisted on seven of the goals for a total of 23 points in the game.
Aaron Weitzel got the scoring started in the 17th minute with his second goal of the year off an assist by
Aidan Negron. Negron tallied his third goal of the year early in the 26th minute off a pass from
Zach Reed.
Nathan Prex scored his first collegiate goals in the 33rd and 42nd minutes to give the Dutchmen a 4-0 halftime lead.
Aidan Smith and
Ben Kolarek collected assists on the goals.
In the second half
Anderson Velozwong made it 5-0 with his second goal of the year in the 61st minute.
Ethan Groff and
Aidan Smith scored their first career goals off assists by Prex to make it 7-0.
Matthew Weinstock-Collins scored the final goal of the game in the 89th minute heading in a corner kick from Velozwong.
Inside the Box Score
- The 23 points in the game breaks the former record of 21 recorded twice, with the most recent being last year against Albright.
- The eight goals are the second-most in program history behind the nine goals scored against Franklin & Marshall in 1997 and Baptist Bible in 1999.
- The seven assists tied the program record last recorded against Albright last year.
- Prex put his name in the record books with six points on two goals and two assists. The six points are second-most in a game and the first time a Dutchman has recorded that many points since Cam Alexander had six points at Lycoming in 2012.
- Velozwong, Negron, and Smith had a goal and an assist each.
- Dalton Fitterling made six saves in goal before being replaced by Edward Zellner. Zellner and Ethan Bazydola did not need to make a save in the final 30 minutes of action to finish off the team shutout.
- The Dutchmen are now 2-0 all-time against Berks outscoring the Lions 13-0 over the last two years.
