SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College volleyball team dug deep after slow starts to earn a pair of wins at the Scranton Invitational on Saturday afternoon in the John Long Center. The Dutchmen defeated Nazareth College 3-1 after dropping the first set and then rallied from two sets down to defeat host University of Scranton 3-2.
Game 1 vs. Nazareth
The Golden Flyers took an early lead defeating the Dutchmen 25-22 in the first set. LVC responded by winning the next three sets 25-20, 25-17, and 25-19 to win their first match of the year.
Inside the Box Score
- Taylor McInerney had a big game in her first match as a Dutchman with 12 kills and three service aces. She also led the team with 18 digs.
- Julia Rill also hit the ball well with 11 kills and had 11 digs.
- Ali Whitworth made 22 assists, five kills, and recorded 12 digs.
- Margaret Cole had six kills while assisting on three blocks.
- In the second set the Dutchmen were down 19-16 before scoring seven straight points on their way to winning the set.
Game 2 vs. Scranton
The Royals won the first two sets on their home court before LVC rallied to win the last three sets. The third set was the closest of the five sets with the Dutchmen winning 26-24. The team then used the momentum to win set four 25-20 and then won the match with a 15-12 win in the fifth and deciding set.

- McInerney and Rill had another huge game in leading the squad. McInerney had a game-high 18 kills and 19 digs with three service aces. Rill added 11 kills and 15 digs with three aces.
- As a team the Dutchmen served the ball very well with 13 aces. Cole had three aces while Whitworth and Abigail Souder added two each.
- Whitworth recorded 33 assists and had 16 digs.
- Robyn Stepler had eight kills while Cole put away six kills.
- Olivia Nace had two blocks.
- The win over the Royals was the program's first since 2016 snapping a four-match skid.
McInerney and Rill were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances during the two matches.
