LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lebanon Valley sophomore
Lexi Ward scored her fifth career goal on Saturday afternoon as the field hockey squad dropped a hard-fought game at University of Lynchburg. The Hornets, who are receiving votes in the National Preseason Poll, won 5-1 in their home opener.
Lynchburg (2-0) took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of goals by Emily Yanes. Ward cut the deficit in half in the second quarter on a beautiful give-and-go with
Elena Tulli. Yanes found the back of the cage one more time and Sydney Rowe scored to give the Hornets a 4-1 lead heading into halftime. The hosts scored their final goal in the fourth quarter.
Inside the Box Score
- Ward's first goal of the season came right at the 21-minute mark after forcing a turnover. The sophomore passed the ball to Tulli who gave it right back to Ward for an open shot.
- The assist for Tulli was the first of her career.
- Kayleigh Kmet made a career high 11 saves in goal while facing 16 shots.
- Devyn Goyette saw her first collegiate action in cage and made a save in 9:21 minutes of work.
What's Next
LVC will return to the friendly confines of Arnold Field this Wednesday evening for a 7 pm. start against Bryn Mawr College.
