ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College volleyball team had one of their biggest wins of the year on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 victory over visiting York College of Pennsylvania in front of an energetic home crowd inside Sorrentino Gymnasium.
The Dutchmen (9-3, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) fed off a lively student section in just their second home match of the year. The Spartans (8-5, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) scored the first three points of the match and led a very close first set 23-21 before LVC won three of the next four points to even the score. The teams battled throughout the second set with both teams trading rallies. The Dutchmen held a 22-21 lead but the Spartans won the next four points to even the match up at one set apiece.
The third set was just as close as the first two with neither team able to gain a large advantage. After an attack error gave the Dutchmen a 21-20 lead,
Taylor McInerney closed out the set with three service aces on four serves to give the Dutchmen a 2-1 lead. LVC came out strong in the fourth set and took an early 3-2 lead. They were able to stretch the lead to 10-4 forcing a York timeout. York managed to close the gap to 19-17 but the Dutchmen stayed strong and won the set to clinch the victory.
