McInerney and Whitworth Earn All-Tournament Honors As Volleyball Finishes Second At Worthington Classic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Taylor McInerney and Ali Whitworth were both named to the All-Tournament Team as the Lebanon Valley College volleyball squad won their Pool with a 3-0 sweep over host Gallaudet and then fell to Salisbury University 3-1 in the Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Worthington Classic in Washington D.C.
 
Game 1 vs. Gallaudet
The Dutchmen (8-3) swept the host Bison (7-9) in three sets to top Pool A and qualify for the Championship Match. LVC won the first set 25-17, took the second set 25-13, and then shook off a late rally by the Bison to win the third set 25-23.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • McInerney had 18 kills and hit .387 in the match while Julia Rill had 12 kills and two service aces.
  • Whitworth totaled 30 assists and had two aces with eight digs.
  • Margaret Cole had eight kills and two blocks.
  • Kasey Thomas led the team with 10 digs. Robyn Stepler led the team in service aces with three.
  • The Dutchmen hit a season-best .340 in the match.
Game 2 vs. Salisbury
LVC (8-4) won the first set 25-22. Salisbury (13-1) came back to win the next two sets 25-19 and 25-18 before ending the match with a 25-12 win in set four.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Whitworth had an all-around great match with 31 assists including her 1,000th career assist. She now has 1,019 assists in her career. The junior also had four aces, 15 digs, and three kills.
  • McInerney had 19 kills and 12 digs.
  • Rill added six kills and eight digs while Stepler had six kills.
  • Thomas led the team with 17 digs.

The Dutchmen will host York College of Pennsylvania in a big Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth battle on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. inside Sorrentino Gymnasium.
