Whitworth Records 91 Assists In Split At Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – Ali Whitworth had a huge day to lead the Lebanon Valley College volleyball team to a split on Saturday at the Dickinson Tri-Match in Carlisle. The host Red Devils defeated the Dutchman 3-1 in the first match of the day before LVC roared back for a 3-1 victory over Penn State Altoona in the second match.
 
Game 1 vs. Dickinson
All four sets against the Red Devils (4-2) were incredibly close with neither team winning by more than three points. Dickinson won the first set 25-22 and then Lebanon Valley (3-3) won the second set 27-25. The Red Devils took a 2-1 lead with a 25-23 win in the third set before clinching the match with a 26-24 victory in the fourth set.

  • Whitworth led the Dutchmen with 42 assists, 13 digs, three service aces, one solo block, and two block assists.
  • Taylor McInerney had 22 kills and 11 digs for the Dutchmen. Julia Rill also had double digit kills with 12 and added six digs.
  • The Dutchmen had seven aces in the match and four blocks. 
Game 2 vs. Penn State Altoona
LVC (4-3) responded to the tough loss in game one valiantly by taking the first two sets off Penn State Altoona (1-6) 25-17 and 28-26. The Lions won the third set 25-20 before the Dutchmen won the fourth set 25-19 to win the match.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Whitworth was one assist shy of her career high with an amazing 49 assists to six different Dutchmen. She added five kills and 12 digs.
  • McInerney led the team in kills with 25 giving her 129 for the season in just seven matches. She also had four service aces and 23 digs.
  • Rill had 12 kills and 14 digs. Kelli Heffer was third on the team with eight kills.
  • Kasey Thomas had a season high 20 digs.
  • Olivia Nace had two blocks for the second time this year.
  • The Dutchmen had 58 assists on their 60 kills in the match.
  • LVC improved to 17-0 all time against Penn State Altoona.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will head down to Frederick, Maryland on Wednesday night to take on Hood College in their third conference match of the season.
