Men’s Tennis Tops Scranton In Fall Home Opener

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men's tennis team began the fall dual season with a convincing 7-2 victory over visiting University of Scranton on Wednesday afternoon at the Shankroff Tennis Center.
 
The Dutchmen won two of the three doubles matches and then took five of the six singles matches from the Royals.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Brady McLucas and Michael Schuetz made quick work at number three doubles to give LVC the first point of the match with an 8-1 win. Jeffrey Bauer and Brendan Byler were done at number two doubles not long after with an 8-3 win. Justin Schuetz and Adam Warren battled to a tough 8-6 defeat at number one.
  • The Dutchmen cruised through the back three courts picking up quick wins at number four, five, and six singles.
  • Byler was the first to finish winning 6-0, 6-0 at number six. Bauer was second to wrap up his match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at number four. First-year Jesse Beck took home a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number five to clinch the victory.
  • Warren needed a tie-breaker to win the first set 7-6 (7-5) and then dominated the second set 6-0 at number two.
  • Justin Schuetz battled the reining Landmark Player of the Year to three sets before pulling away for a huge victory. He won the first set 7-5 before James Harrington took set two 6-3. Schuetz dug deep and won the third set 10-2 for the Dutchmen's final point of the night.
  • McLucas played well at number three dropping both sets 7-5.
  • The win was the program's ninth straight at the Shankroff Tennis Center dating back to last spring.
 
Up Next
Lebanon Valley will hit the road for a Friday afternoon match at Dickinson College. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Carlisle.
