McLucas Earns MVP Honors As Men’s Tennis Wins MAC Commonwealth Title

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament with a 5-2 victory over Stevenson on Sunday morning at the Shankroff Tennis Center.
 
The second-seeded Mustangs (10-11) got off to a strong start winning the first game in all three doubles matches. The top-seed Dutchmen (15-6) shook it off and came back to win two of the three close matches. LVC then won three of the first four singles matches to clinch the victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Brendan Byler and William Harriger won 8-6 at number two doubles to even the match up after the Mustangs won number one doubles.
  • Jeffrey Bauer and Brady McLucas gave the Dutchmen a huge momentum shift going into singles with an 8-6 win at third doubles.
  • Michael Schuetz avenged a regular season loss at number six singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory to give LVC a 3-1 lead.
  • Adam Warren was the next to finish over on court three as he won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 moving the Dutchmen one win away from the title.
  • Brady McLucas clinched the match victory at number five singles with a 7-5, 6-2 victory. It was his second match-clinching victory of the week earning him Tournament MVP Honors.
  • His 21st victory of the season tied the program record held by Sam Calabria who went 21-5 in 2011-12.
  • The conference title is LVC's second in program history and first since 2009. The Dutchmen were the top team in the Commonwealth five times during the late 90s and early 2000s and lost in the MAC Championship to the Freedom winner three times.

LVC will now await Monday's release from the NCAA to find out where and when they will be playing next weekend in the NCAA Tournament.
