ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Luke Blair and
Max Kaplan both hit two-run homers to lead the Lebanon Valley College baseball team to a 10-2 victory over Messiah in game one of a doubleheader at McGill Field on Saturday afternoon. Kaplan also homered in game two as Falcons won 14-6 to salvage a split of the conference doubleheader.
Game 1
The Dutchmen (15-8, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) used a big six-run first inning to set the tone for the game. The Falcons (12-11, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth) settled down and didn't allow another run until the six and cut into the lead with a run in the fourth and a run in the sixth. LVC put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the inning and then added a run in the seventh.
Inside the Box Score
- Blair blasted his first homer of the year and third of his career to right field on a 2-2 pitch to give the Dutchmen a 6-0 lead in the first. Blair stole two bases during the game
- Kaplan hit his first home run of the day on a 3-2 pitch to left field in the sixth.
- Andrew Miles had three hits in the game and knocked in a pair of runs. He was a problem for the Falcons on the base paths with three stolen bases.
- Kaplan, Ryan Murphy, and Mike Bulgia all scored runs on wild pitches.
- Shane Stossel had a great outing on the mound to earn his second win of the year. He pitched five innings and allowed just one run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
- Michael Williams earned a three-inning save in relief. He scattered three hits and struck out one while facing 12 hitters.
- The outfield saw a lot of work as Bulgia made six putouts in center, Kaplan made five in left, and Murphy caught three fly balls in right.
Game 2
Messiah (13-11, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) jumped out to a 7-0 lead with two runs in the first and five in the second. The Dutchmen (15-9, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) scored at least one run in the third through sixth innings. The Falcons used a five-run fourth to build a 12-1 lead.
Inside the Box Score
- Kaplan got the Dutchmen on the board with a monster homer to left in the third inning. He has now hit four home runs this year including three at McGill Field.
- Conor Smith had another huge game with three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. This was his third multi-hit game of the week.
- Mike Bulgia extended his on-base streak with a hit and a walk. He has reached base in all 18 games he has played this season. Nico Santoro extended his hitting streak to eight games with two hits in the game. He also scored a run and knocked in a run.
- The Dutchmen scored over five runs in a game for the seventh straight game. LVC went 5-2 in that stretch.
- Brendan Landry, Malachi Duka, and Blair Shaffer shut down the MU offense for the final 3.1 innings. Shaffer allowed one hit while Duka struck out two in one inning of work and Landry stuck out one while facing four batters.
Who's Next
LVC will head east to Widener on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch against the Pride in Chester. The Dutchmen will then host Widener on Friday.
