Baseball Scores 22 Runs To Back Strong Pitching In Sweep At Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – The Lebanon Valley College baseball team scored 22 runs and received strong pitching on Sunday afternoon in a sweep of Hood College at Frederick Community College. The Dutchmen won the opener 14-2 and then cruised to an 8-3 win in the nightcap.
 
Game 1
LVC (16-11, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) scored a run in the first and then two in the fourth. The Dutchmen broke the game wide open with seven runs in the seventh inning. The Blazers got on the board with a run in the bottom half. LVC responded with three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth before Hood scored in the bottom of the ninth to set the final score.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • The Dutchmen jumped out to a strong start with a run in the first inning as Jace Fetterman knocked in Max Kaplan.
  • Nico Santoro had his fourth three-hit game of the year and scored two runs.
  • Andrew Miles also had a big game for the Dutchmen with three hits, three RBIs, and a run scored.
  • Luke Blair knocked in three runs with a bases-clearing double to center in the seventh inning. Ryan Murphy knocked in two runs and scored twice.
  • LVC hit five doubles in the game and drew eight walks.
  • Tanner Rock was brilliant in seven innings of work. He allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts.
  • Malachi Duka struck out three of the four batters he faced in the eighth. He has eight hitters in his last three innings of work spanning three appearances.
  • Will Zimmerman didn't allow a hit and had an unearned run score in the ninth. 
Game 2
The Dutchmen (17-11, 5-3 MAC Commonwealth) jumped right on the Hood pitching in game two scoring one run in the first and two in the second. LVC increased their lead to 6-0 with two more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth before the Blazers got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Both teams scored a run in the seventh and ninth innings.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Kaplan knocked the first pitch of the game into center field and then scored two batters later with smart base running scoring on a throwing error by the second baseman. He finished with two hits in the game.
  • Santoro had another multi-hit game with two hits and two RBI. He has a team-leading 13 multi-hit games this year and is on a 12-game hitting streak.
  • Jace Fetterman had three hits including his second career home run in the seventh inning on a blast to left field. Conor Smith also had three hits with one run scored and an RBI.
  • Mike Bulgia walked in the fifth and doubled in the ninth to reach base in his team-leading 22nd straight game.
  • Shane Stossel struck out a season-high nine batters in six strong innings of work. The sophomore allowed just one unearned run on three hits and a walk.
Who's Next
Lebanon Valley will play their final home non-conference game of the year on Wednesday hosting Immaculata University before traveling to Albright next Saturday.
