Hevelow Free Throws Give Dutchmen Huge Road Win At York

YORK, Pa. – Riley Hevelow knocked down a pair of free throws with six seconds left to give the Lebanon Valley women's basketball team a big 49-47 victory at York College of Pennsylvania on Tuesday evening inside Wolf Gymnasium.

LVC (4-4, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) had their best start of the season as they jumped out in front of York (3-5, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) 14-4 making six straight shots including three pointers by Kate Fitzpatrick and Cristina Fernandez. The Dutchmen kept the pressure on the Spartans and built the lead up to 22-9 on a Jordan Zimmerman three with a little over two minutes to play in the quarter. Neither team scored until Daelyn Stabler found Fitzpatrick for a layup with 7:43 to go in the second quarter. York was able to cut the lead down to four on a 11-0 run fueled by three three-pointers. Hevelow knocked down a three off an assist by Allison Bimmer to give LVC a 29-22 halftime lead.

The Dutchmen came out strong to start the second half and built the lead back up to 14 points by holding the Spartans without a field goal until there was 5:39 remaining. York would finish the quarter strong cutting the lead down to four points before Fitzpatrick knocked down a long three as time expired to give the Dutchmen a 45-38 lead. Both teams locked down on defense in the fourth quarter and the Spartans slowly chipped away at the lead until a jumper with 2:44 left tied the game at 47. York had a chance to win the game in the final 30 seconds with the shot clock off but the Dutchmen forced a missed layup and Fernandez grabbed the rebound and call timeout with six seconds left. The Spartans were called for two consecutive fouls before the Dutchmen were able to inbound the ball with the second foul sending Hevelow to the line for two shots. She calmly knocked both down to give LVC back the lead. A last second jumper by the Spartans was off the mark.
