Women’s Basketball Runs Past Susquehanna In Big Road Victory

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's basketball team outscored host Susquehanna 22-10 in the third quarter to pick up a huge 62-48 road victory over the River Hawks in Houts Gymnasium on Wednesday evening in Selinsgrove.
 
Susquehanna (1-1) led by as many as six in the first quarter before Kate Fitzpatrick and Cristina Fernandez scored seven straight points to give LVC (2-2) a one-point lead with just over two minutes to go. The River Hawks closed the period out strong to take a 18-14 advantage. The Dutchmen locked down the River Hawk offense in the second quarter holding Susquehanna to just eight points while scoring 14 of their own. Daelyn Stabler cut the lead to 20-16 with 9:08 to go and then neither team scored until Samya Santiague buried a three with 5:31 on the clock.
 
The Dutchmen opened the second half on a 16-3 run over the first five minutes to take a 44-29 lead. LVC used great shooting from beyond the arc with four made threes in the quarter to build a 14-point advantage going into the final 10 minutes of play. The River Hawks fought back cutting the lead down to six with 2:38 to play. Fitzpatrick nailed a three right around the two-minute mark, grabbed a defensive rebound at the other end, and then found Allison Bimmer open on the left wing for a dagger three-pointer to put the game away.

  • Fernandez had a great game with 15 points and eight rebounds while dishing out three assists.
  • Stabler pulled down 13 rebounds and scored eight points. She was a force defensively with five steals.
  • Fitzpatrick finished with 13 points while Riley Hevelow scored seven.
  • Jordan Zimmerman made all three shots she attempted to finish with eight points while Santiague added five points.
  • The Dutchmen shot 41.4 percent from the floor and had 22 points in the paint. The defense forced 17 Susquehanna turnovers.

LVC will have the weekend off before taking on Elizabethtown College next Tuesday inside Sorrentino Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
