ANNVILLE, Pa. – There's something about Albright that brings out the best in
Tim Ervey. The graduate student running back finished with 120 rushing yards and three touchdowns, including a pair in the second half to lock down a 41-24 victory over the visiting Lions in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field.
Last season, Ervey set the single-game rushing record in leading the Dutchmen to a rainy win over Albright.
In this matchup, with LVC holding tight to a 27-24 lead late in the third quarter, defensive lineman
Jake Marcus forced a fumble inside the Albright five. Two plays later, Ervey scored from one yard out. Then in the fourth, Ervey capped an eight-play drive with a seven-yard scamper.
The win over Albright means the LVC student body will march to Kreiderheim, the College president's home, in one of The Valley's long-standing traditions.
The victory also guarantees LVC a home matchup in the MAC-Centennial Bowl Challenge on Saturday, Nov. 19. The opponent and game time will be announced after the NCAA playoff berths are announced.
LVC Scoring Highlights
This long-standing rivalry provided plenty of fireworks and big plays on both sides of the ball.
LVC opened the scoring thanks to a short field when defensive back
Erik Williams recovered an Albright fumble near midfield. A 32-yard reception by
Malaki Blair moved the ball down the field and Ervey punched in his first score of the day.
After an Albright counterpunch, the Dutchmen responded with 20 points over a span of six minutes in the second quarter.
Quarterback
Tanner Lewis scrambled in from two yards out for a 14-7 advantage. Lewis finished the day 10-of-14 for 118 yards to go along with 49 yards on the ground.
Two minutes later, defensive back
Evan Kutzler returned an interception for a touchdown. Four minutes after that, first-year running back
Dion Bryant connected with fellow first-year player
Deshawn Wilson for a 63-yard touchdown strike.
Defensive Notes
Junior defensive end
Noah Caldani topped the Dutchmen with 11 tackles–four for loss, including two sacks.
The defense registered six sacks.
Ryan Gibney,
Luke Pollock,
Brody Robinson, and Kutzler all found their way to the quarterback, along with Caldani.
Kreiderheim Tradition
Tradition holds that if LVC beats Albright, our oldest football rival, then the LVC student body marches to Kreiderheim, the College president's home, and requests the day before Thanksgiving (Nov. 23) off from class. That day is currently scheduled as a half-day of classes. The group, led by the football team and Annville fire and police personnel, is accompanied by the LVC cheerleaders and Pep Band, march from Arnold Field, across the footbridge over Rt. 934, and up the hill to Kreiderheim.
Students who want to March to Kreiderheim should meet behind the home bleachers at Arnold Field on Monday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m. Wear your blue & white, and bring your enthusiasm for this long-time tradition.
