ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley College inducted its Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022 on October 14, as five new individuals and two teams were honored inside Sorrentino Gymnasium.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2022 includes Brian Cottone '09 (football), Ted Kemmerling '00 (wrestling), Jocelyn Masotti '12 (field hockey), Wayne Perry '78 (women's volleyball), and Johanna Walker '12 (women's track & field). The 2002 LVC baseball team and 2012 women's indoor track & field team were also recognized.
The 2002 LVC baseball team won the program's first MAC Championship and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The Dutchmen went 26-19, including 16-7 in conference play, defeating Messiah 10-6 in the title game.
The 2012 women's indoor track & field team won the first of three consecutive MAC Championships and the first in program history. The Dutchmen scored 136 points, winning by 38 points over second-place Messiah. Eleven LVC student-athletes earned All-MAC First Team honors, while 12 earned second-team recognition.
The Lebanon Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Lebanon Valley College Athletics. These individuals have helped bring recognition, honor, distinction, and excellence to Lebanon Valley College and its intercollegiate athletics program. Former student-athletes must have graduated at least 10 years earlier to be eligible for election.
Brian Cottone '09 – Football
One of the most decorated defensive players in LVC football history, Cottone became the first Dutchman to be named MAC Defensive Player of the Year. He earned All-Conference First Team accolades as a senior after two consecutive second-team recognitions.
Cottone played his way onto the D3football.com All-Region Third Team in 2008 after leading the team with 71 total tackles, including 12.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He added one interception, five pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries that season. Cottone's career numbers were equally impressive. He played in all 40 possible games over four years, racking up 316 tackles, 42 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, and six interceptions.
After graduation in May of 2009, Cottone signed with the Kuopio Steelers of Finland's First Division Football League. He led the team to a 9-1 record, including its first championship. He earned Defensive Player of the championship game honors and finished the season with 106 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 4 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions. Cottone turned down a contract extension with the Kuopio Steelers and an offer from the Vantaa TAFT (who would go on to win the 2010 Division I title).
Once returning home, Cottone joined the Philadelphia Eagles as a premium ticket sales rep. He spent the 2010 season with the team before joining Automatic Data Processing (ADP) as an outside sales rep. He went on to spend eight years in SaaS sales at ADP & Viventium Software. He was a top performer at ADP with three SuperStarts & two Presidents Clubs.
Cottone is the director of sales at Vitable Health. He was the first sales hire and helped the organization secure $7.2 million in venture capital funding. Headquartered in Philadelphia, Vitable provides affordable group health benefits to Mid-Atlantic companies. Cottone also co-founded the Cole Cares Foundation with his family to honor his late sister, Nicole Cottone Obenski, who passed away in 2019 from colon cancer. Cole Cares was formed to continue Nicole's legacy in the Radnor High School community by awarding scholarships to deserving seniors who exemplify Nicole's resiliency, compassion, and positivity. He lives in Philadelphia with his girlfriend, Julianna, and her dog, Steve.
Ted Kemmerling '00 – Wrestling
Ted Kemmerling holds the best NCAA finish in school history after placing second at the NCAA Division III National Championships in 1999 at 157 pounds. The previous year, he placed fourth at 150 pounds. He stands as just the second two-time All-American in program history.
Kemmerling was a regional medalist twice in his three seasons at The Valley, winning MAC Championships in 1998 and 1999 after a runner-up finish in 1997. He was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the 1999 MAC Championships.
After graduation, Kemmerling put his degree to good use by working in several different business roles including supply chain, sales, operations, and accounting. In his free time, Kemmerling enjoys biking and is a three-time participant in the Wilmington 100K Finisher and two-time participant in the Leadville Trail 100 Finisher. He resides in Pine Grove, Pa., with his significant other, Pam Guigley, two daughters, Lindsey and Katie, and two labradoodles.
Jocelyn Masotti '12 – Field Hockey
The first Dutchman field hockey player to have her jersey retired, Jocelyn Masotti is a four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American. She earned third-team honors in 2008, second-team honors in 2009, and first-team honors in 2010 and 2011. She still holds NCAA Division III records with 300 career points and 141 career goals.
Masotti was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011. She was an NFHCA All-Region first-team honoree all four years and was selected to play in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game in 2011. She established program records with 39 goals and 84 points as a junior while leading the team to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Masotti graduated from LVC in 2012 with a biology degree. She continued her education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and graduated with a master's in Physician Assistant studies. For the past six years, she has worked as a Pediatric Physician Assistant at the Lehigh Valley Health Network. Novak Masotti has even started a Reach Out and Read Program with the network and they are getting it distributed network wide. She married Scott Masotti '13, M'18 on New Year's Eve of 2017. Scott is a Licensed Professional Counselor. The couple had their first daughter, Sophia, on Nov. 19, 2019, and expect their second child in March of 2023. They have two dogs, Bronco and Riley. Masotti and her family reside in Effort, Pa.
Wayne Perry '78 – Women's Volleyball
The architect of Lebanon Valley College women's volleyball since its inception in 1987, Wayne Perry coached the Dutchmen for 34 years until his retirement at the end of the 2020–21 academic year. A five-time Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Coach of the Year, Perry compiled a 671-382 career record that ranks 20th all-time in NCAA Division III. He was also named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Coach of the Year in 2014.
Perry led the Dutchmen to six championships, including four consecutive MAC Commonwealth crowns from 2008 to 2011. Additionally, he coached his squads to 10 ECAC Tournament appearances and two titles. Perry topped the 30-win plateau three times and averaged more than 20 wins a year for his career. He guided the Dutchmen to 19 consecutive postseasons from 2001 to 2019.
Since leaving LVC, Perry has continued coaching as a volunteer at Ephrata High School and for the Central Pennsylvania Volleyball Club. He enjoys walking, biking, and hiking with his wife, Diana. They volunteer at Swatara State Park, doing trail maintenance and assisting with other projects. During the summer, Wayne and Diana go backpacking and fishing in the high country in Wyoming and Montana. Wayne also enjoys taking care of their huge vegetable garden and fruit trees, and woodworking, making everything from river tables to turning bowls. Diana also loves to read and even authored a novel, which she plans to publish soon (with editing assistance from a couple of LVC alumnae).
Johanna Walker '12 – Women's Track & Field
One of LVC's best women's track & field hurdlers, Walker is an eight-time Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Champion and two-time MAC Athlete of the Year. As a senior in 2012, she qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles. That same year she led the Dutchmen to their first-ever team title at the 2012 MAC Indoor Championships, where she won three gold medals and was named Athlete of the Year. Walker finished her career with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships to earn All-American honors.
Walker began her career at The Valley with six All-MAC First-Team finishes and two Second Team performances in 2009, earning Rookie of the Year in the indoor and outdoor seasons. She followed that up with three second-place finishes at the MAC Indoor Championships and wins in the 100 meters and 200 meters at the Outdoor Championships in 2010. That same year, she received her first Track Athlete of the Year award. As a junior, Walker compiled three more All MAC First Team honors at the Indoor Championships and won her first conference hurdle title at the Outdoor Championships. Walker holds two indoor and two outdoor school records.
After graduating from LVC, Walker took some time off to travel and spend time with family abroad. She then started her career in recruitment and moved to San Diego, Calif. Walker currently works as a recruiter for the Global Business Operations teams at Google.
