CHESTER, Pa. – Gracie Johnson scored her fourth goal of the year for the Lebanon Valley College field hockey team in a heart-breaking 2-1 shootout defeat at Widener University on Saturday afternoon in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MAC Commonwealth) defensive battle.
The only two goals of the game were scored in the first quarter with the Pride (8-4, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) getting on the board first in the fifth minute. LVC struck back with 1:07 left in the quarter as Johnson found the back of the cage to even things up. Neither team was able to score over the final three quarters and two overtimes. In the shootout The Dutchmen and Pride both scored on their first attempts. Neither team was able to score on their next two attempts before LVC took a 2-1 lead on attempt four. The Pride tied things up on their fifth attempt sending the shootout into extra attempts. Both teams made their sixth attempts and then Widener scored on their seventh attempt for the game-winning goal.

Lebanon Valley will be back on Arnold Field for the first time since September 24 on Wednesday with another big conference game at 7 p.m. against Eastern University.
