Tosto Scores 15th Career Goal In Season Opener

HERSHEY, Pa. – Junior Blake Tosto scored his 15th career goal for the Lebanon Valley College men's ice hockey team on Friday evening in the season opener against SUNY Cortland. The Red Dragons scored three goals in the third period to pull away for a 7-2 victory.
 
Jered Stevenson got the Dutchmen off to a great start with the opening goal of the game at the 7:45 mark of the opening period. SUNY Cortland responded with the next four goals over a course of a six-minute span between the first and second period to take a 4-1 lead. The Dutchmen fought back and Tosto cut the lead to 4-2 on a power-play goal at 5:17 of the second. The score stayed that way into the second intermission. LVC fought valiantly in the third period but were unable to score as the Red Dragons left Hershey with the first win of the season.

  • The Dutchmen had six skaters record a point on opening night.
  • Tosto had a great game winning a game-high 10 faceoffs and scoring a goal on four shots.
  • Stevenson scored a goal on his only shot of the night.
  • Artem Mikhaylov, Rais Francis, Haralds Jirgens, and Brenden Yingling all had an assist each.
  • Jirgens blocked a team-high five shots while Eric Malcarney blocked three.
  • Ty Franchi made 37 saves in goal recording 15 in the first period, 12 in the second, and then 10 in the third.

Lebanon Valley will be back on home ice Saturday afternoon taking on SUNY Morrisville. Puck-drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Hersheypark Arena.
