Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Blackwood Gives Men's Ice Hockey Overtime Win

 
HERSHEY, Pa.Harris Blackwood scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give LVC a 4-3 win over Neumann in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference matchup on Friday, Jan. 28 at Hersheypark Arena.
 
With the score tied at 3-3, Blackwood scored in the slot on assists from Jackson Legro and Blake Tosto at 2:01 of overtime.
 
 
Earlier in the game, LVC built a 3-0 lead with second-period goals by Matt Kassab and Riley Johnson and a short-handed goal by Brad Viola early in the third.
 
Neumann stormed back in the third with three goals in a span of five minutes to tie the game at 3-3 and send it to overtime.
 
Ty Franchi finished with 34 saves for the Dutchmen and has won his first two collegiate starts.
 
LVC Scoring Plays
  • Kassab punched in his second goal of the season less than a minute into the second period. Eric Malcarney and Max Loga earned the assists.
  • Right before the end of the period, LVC went up 2-0 on the power play tally by Johnson. Tino Alunni and Jackson Legro assisted on the goal.
  • Viola's short-handed goal was the team's third man-down score of the year. Darion Benchich picked up the assist.
Inside the Numbers
  • Blackwood's goal was the first of his career. He has three points (1g, 2 a) in his last two games.
  • Johnson's goal is his first of the season.
  • Franchi laid out for a save at the end of the first period on a penalty shot by Austin Boyle.
  • Tosto has at least one point in 10 of his 16 games this season.
  • LVC (4-12, 3-8-0-1 UCHC) has won in its last two games.

"This is a huge win for us. It wasn't pretty, but it's win, and we are growing as a team," said head coach Don Parsons.
 
Who's Next
LVC's game at Manhattanville scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to weather. The Dutchmen return to action on Friday, Feb. 4 at home against King's.
