ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Soccer team's comeback effort fell just short as they dropped their home opener 2-1 to Misericordia on Wednesday afternoon. The Dutchmen fell to 0-2 while the Cougars improved to 2-0.
How It Happened
- The Cougars would control play in the LVC defensive third for a majority of the first half as they fired off 18 shots in the first 45 minutes of action but none would find the back of the net and the two teams would go into halftime scoreless.
- Misericordia would finally crack the bend-but-don't-break LVC defense in the 58th minute when Kate Field sent a cross in from the left wing and Michaela Fasolino would head the ball into the left corner to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage.
- In the 82nd minute, Misericordia would grab a crucial insurance goal following a scrum in front of the net. With the ball being sent into the six-yard box, multiple players from both sides tried to get their foot on the ball with Julia Beck eventually succeeding and finding the back of the net to double the Cougar lead.
- Following a Misericordia handball, Madison Carper would take the free kick from about 35 yards out and float the ball perfectly into the top-right corner of the frame to pull LVC within a goal with just over five minutes to play in regulation. The Dutchmen would be unable to add an equalizer in the final minutes and would fall 2-1.
Inside The Numbers
- Jocelyn Umana made 11 saves in net for the Dutchmen for the second consecutive match.
- Madison Carper scored her first goal of the season on the deep set piece.
- Misericordia controlled the play offensively as they held a 32-9 advantage in total shots and 13-5 on frame.
- The two teams played a clean game with only five fouls called between the two sides.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen remain at home their next time out as they host Haverford College in non-conference action this Saturday. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at Herbert Field.
