Messiah 3, Lebanon Valley 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-20)
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Volleyball team fell 3-0 to Messiah in the 2021 home opener and MAC Commonwealth opener on Wednesday evening. The Dutchmen fell to 2-2, 0-1 while Messiah improved to 3-2, 1-0.
How It Happened
- Messiah came out of the gates with a hot start as they scored eight of the first ten points of the opening set to grab the early lead. LVC would chip away at the deficit and when trailing 14-10, the Dutchmen would rattle off six straight points to grab a 16-14 lead midway through the set. The Falcons would regroup however winning 11 of the final 13 points, including the last seven, to take the opening set 25-18.
- The second set started similarly to the first with Messiah jumping ahead 7-3 in the early going. The two would go back-and-forth for the majority of the set but LVC could never get over the hump as Messiah took set two, 25-18.
- In the third set, Messiah led 12-8 before the. Dutchmen would battle back with another run of five straight points to pull ahead 13-12. The two sides would exchange points but with LVC ahead 18-16, Messiah would get rolling and take the nine of the final 11 points to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
Inside The Numbers
- Reily Shelly led the Dutchmen with ten kills with Mikiah Sangrey close behind with nine.
- Ali Whitworth led LVC with 25 assists. Kasey Thomas finished with 17 digs, which was a game high.
- Messiah's Mackenzie Feight led all players with 13 kills.
- The Falcons has six blocks with Rachel Rashford and Caitlin Lielbriedis each finishing with 2.5.
- Messiah held a 9-2 advantage in service aces.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen will take part in the Swarthmore Invitational their next time out as they will play a trio of matches this upcoming weekend. LVC will take on Marymount (Va.) on Friday at 5 p.m. followed by matches against Stevens at noon and Swarthmore at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Swarthmore, Pa.
