ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Soccer team made a statement in their first home game in almost two years as the Dutchmen scored four unanswered goals in a 4-1 rout of Bridgewater (Va.) on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
- It was the Eagles who got the scoring started in the 14th minute when Luke Stubbs found the back of the net. After an initial shot from the right side of the box was saved it was deflected right to Stubbs who tapped the ball into the open net.
- The Dutchmen wasted no time to respond as Lucas Strange capitalized on a beautiful long bass from Kurtis Rineer to tie the game. Strange would place a shot in to the left corner from the right side of the box bring the score to 1-1.
- In the 35th minute, Dane Varner played a curling free kick into the box and found the head of Anderson Velozwong who beat the Eagle keeper to give LVC their first lead of the season. The Dutchmen would maintain a 2-1 advantage into intermission.
- LVC would add a pair of insurance goals midway through the second half, each within 4:11 of each other. Peter Foerster started the second-half scoring with a left-footed volley from 25 yards out that was perfectly placed in the top right corner of the frame to double the LVC lead. Strange would tally his second goal of the season with a penalty kick a few minutes later to put the Eagles away 4-1.
Inside The Numbers
- Lucas Strange netted a pair of goals in the season opener. This was his first multi-game of his career.
- Anderson Velozwong and Peter Foerster each added goals in the win.
- Dalton Fittlerling made three saves and earned the win in his collegiate debut.
- LVC held a 12-10 advantage in total shots and 8-5 on target.
