How It Happened
READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's Field Hockey team opened up Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MACC) play by blanking Albright 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 2-6, 1-1 MACC, while the Lions fell to 3-3, 1-1 MACC.
- LVC had a good scoring chance with just over four minutes left in the opening period when Elena Tulli nearly scored, but Adele Thomas was there to make the save. 10 seconds later, another Tulli shot was stopped by Albright's Samantha McDonald for the defensive save. That led to a penalty corner for LVC, but Tulli's shot was blocked and the game remained scoreless after 15 minutes of action.
- The Dutchmen generated a penalty corner in the second quarter but was unable to get a shot off midway through the frame. From there, Corinne Kearney and LVC's defense kept the Lions off the scoreboard and the game was scoreless at halftime.
- 4:27 into the third quarter, the Dutchmen broke the scoreless tie when Alana Antonello's long pass from the right found the stick of Ashlyn Urich and her one-timer beat Albright's net minder for the 1-0 lead.
- In the fourth, the Lions generated a penalty corner 7:30 into the period, but Chelsea Johnson's shot sailed wide. In the latter stages of the fourth, the Lions' Lamya Mejias had a scoring opportunity, but her shot went wide and LVC hung on for the narrow 1-0 victory.
