Series History
The Dutchmen and Pride will meet on Saturday for the 76th time in a series that dates back to 1933. Widener owns a 48-25-2 overall mark against LVC. The Dutchmen's last win over the Pride came on Oct. 19, 2019 in Chester in thrilling fashion and Widener's last victory was Sept. 29, 2018.
Â
Last Time We Faced Widener
(
FULL RECAP) On Oct. 19, 2019, Lebanon Valley outscored Widener 27-7 in the second half and overcame a 14-point halftime deficit, led by Hunter Wilson's five total touchdowns, to top the Pride 41-35.
Â
The second half was dominated by the Dutchmen on both sides of the ball. LVC trailed by two scores with Widener receiving the kickoff to start the second half of play but the Dutchmen defense would force a quick punt which would become a theme in the second half. The Dutchmen offense took the ball right down the field on their opening drive of the third quarter, punching it in on a three-yard carry by Wilson cutting the deficit to seven points with 9:18 to go in the third.
Â
On the ensuing drive for the Pride, Widener would go three-and-out and have to punt again as the Dutchmen would take over on their own 20. The LVC offense would work their way down the field with little resistance until the Dutchmen were stopped on third down, forcing a fourth-and-three at the Widener 36. LVC would elect to go for it and the handoff to Wilson up the middle was initially stopped short, but Wilson's second effort would take him across the line to gain and give the Dutchmen a first down at the Widener 32-yard line. On the very next play,Â
Kody Kegarise would fake the hand off and roll out to the right before finding Wilson on the far sideline for a 32-yard touchdown pass to tie the game, 28-28, with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Â
The Dutchmen defense would again stifle the Widener offense and force another punt with 38 seconds remaining in the period.Â
Logan Grauer would come flying in off the edge and block the punt followed by a scoop-and-score from 50 yards out byÂ
Travis Fischer and the Dutchmen took a 34-28 advantage into the fourth.
Â
Last Week vs. Lycoming
(
FULL RECAP) LVC dropped a 31-6 decision at Lycoming this past Saturday afternoon.
The Lycoming offense was clicking early on as the Warriors returned the opening kickoff to almost midfield. The Warriors would need just four plays to find the endzone, capped by a 25-yard touchdown pass by Elijah Shemory to Kevin Krawczyk to give Lycoming a 7-0 lead under two minutes into the game.
Following an LVC three-and-out on their opening possession, Lycoming would start their second possession in Dutchmen territory. Lycoming would get as close as the Dutchmen 14 but the LVC redzone defense would hold and force a Warrior field goal. Ian Plankenhorn knocked in the 36-yard attempt to put Lycoming ahead 10-0.
The Warriors would begin to put some distance between them and the Dutchmen in the third. LVC's opening possession of the second half resulted in just three yards and a punt giving Lycoming good field position for their opening drive. Kyle Powell would score for Lycoming on a 19-yard rush to put the Warriors back up double digits at 17-6.
After another stalled drive by the Dutchmen offense, Lycoming would rattle off a nine-play, 76-yard touchdown drive. The Warriors attempted just one pass on the drive but it would be one of the biggest plays of the afternoon as Shemory connected with Tyjah During for 50 yards. Joey Guida would punch it in from nine yards out and LVC saw themselves fall behind 24-6 quickly into the third quarter.
