ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Flying Dutchmen matched the best start to a season in program history winning their fifth-straight game to begin the year. LVC topped Gettysburg 4-3 in a physical clash of a pair of unbeatens coming in to today. The only other time the Dutchmen started 5-0 was back in 2001.
How It Happened
  • LVC would get on the board early in the contest when Josh Kline finished off an Aidan Negron assists just under the ten-minute mark. Kline would rip a shot from the right side of the box and put it perfectly in the top-left corner of the net to give the Dutchmen the early lead.
  • In the 24th minute, Negron would get on the board with a goal of his own as he sneaked a shot in to the lower-right corner just inside the far post to finish off a Zach Reed cross into the box. LVC would hold the 2-0 lead at halftime, with the only two shots on frame for the Dutchmen resulting in goals.
  • Lucas Strange would score his fifth goal of the season just 4:08 into the second half to push the Dutchmen lead to 3-0. Negron would play a low cross in from the right wing and Strange, who was sprinting to the near post, would flick the ball across the goal face into the left corner to extend the LVC lead.
  • The Bullets would claw their way back into the game in a chaotic second half with a pair of goals just 9:56 apart. Connor O'Donnell would capitalize on a penalty kick to get Gettysburg on the board and make it a 3-1 game. Pape Diallo would score on a free kick that was taken inside the box following an illegal touching by LVC and the Dutchmen found their lead dwindled down to 3-2 with 25 minutes remaining in regulation.
  • The Dutchmen would respond immediately to the second Gettysburg tally when Caleb Cekella's head was able to get on a bouncing ball in the box amongst a host of players from both sides to put the Dutchmen back up 4-2.
  • With just under nine minutes remaining, Jack Carroll finished off a loose ball in the box to again pull Gettysburg within one. The Dutchmen would hold on to the one-goal advantage for the final nine minutes and keep their record unblemished with the 4-3 victory.
Inside The Numbers
  • Aidan Negron had himself an afternoon finishing with a goal and two assists, good for four points. The two assists were his first of his career.
  • Lucas Strange netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season early in the second half.
  • Josh Kline recorded his first career goal in the opening minutes of the match.
  • Sean Quirk set a new career-high with 11 saves in net for the Dutchmen.
  • The team's four assists are tied for the third-most in a single game by LVC.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen head on the road for their next match as they take on former MAC Commonwealth, now MAC Freedom, foe Lycoming College on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m in Williamsport, Pa.
