How It Happened
GRANTHAM, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's lacrosse team jumped out to a big halftime lead and would hang on late to pick up a crucial conference victory over Messiah University 11-9 on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen improve to 5-5, 2-4 MACC on the year while Messiah drops to 3-6, 0-5.
The Dutchmen came out the gates clicking on both ends as they played one of their more complete periods to date by scoring three goals and keeping the Falcon offense off the board in the first quarter.
Carson Frey got the scoring started at the 10:32 mark of the period followed by goals from
Jack Kapcsos and
Jake Bollinger to hold a 3-0 lead after one.
The second quarter was more of the same from the Dutchmen who continued to dominate play on both ends of the field, this time outscoring the Falcons 5-1 in the frame.
Michael Fisher opened the second period with a goal just 59 seconds in before Messiah's Seth Libby would get the Falcons on the scoreboard, LVC holding a 4-1 lead. The Dutchmen would close the half with four unanswered goals, two from Bollinger, one from Frey, and another from Evan
Crawford and LVC went into halftime in control up 8-1.
After a
Kyle Golden strike to start the second half, Messiah rattled off four goals in a stretch just over four minutes to cut the LVC lead in half at 9-5.
Josh Croyle would stop the bleeding at the 1:06 mark temporarily with his first goal of the game to give LVC a 10-5 advantage with 15 minutes remaining.
Messiah would try to rally a comeback by outscoring the Dutchmen 5-1 in the final period, but it was too little too late as LVC held off the Falcons for the 11-9 victory.
