How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's Men's Lacrosse team tested Eastern University, but eventually fell 13-9 on Wednesday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth action. The Dutchmen dropped to 4-5, 1-4 MACC and the Eagles improved to 6-3, 4-2 MACC. Today marked the team's eighth-annual Crosse Out Cancer Game.
 
Nick Serrano stopped 22 shots for LVC, two away from the program record and his new career-high.
 
Carson Frey got today's scoring started with an unassisted goal just 3:06 into the opening quarter, but less than two minutes later, Eastern's Connor Killion responded with an unassisted goal to even the score at 1-1. Later, with 6:04 left in the first, Michael Fisher netted his 10th of the season, followed by Evan Crawford's third at 2:02 to increase LVC's lead to 3-1. With a minute left in the first, the Eagles' Kyle Mulrane brought the visitors to within a goal, but the Dutchmen still held a 3-2 advantage after one quarter of action.
 
Frey scored his second of the game with nine minutes to go in the second, and later, Alex Kiviniemi put the Dutchmen on top by two at 5-3 with his 12th tally of the season. From there, the Eagles responded with a 3-0 run to end the half, including a pair of goals in the final 23 seconds, to take a 6-5 lead over the Dutchmen heading into the third period.
 
To begin the third, Eastern picked up where it left off in the second and netted two consecutive goals to take an 8-5 advantage with 5:59 left. Kiviniemi stopped the spurt with a goal from Fisher, but with just over a minute left in the third, Killion netted another to bring the Eagles' lead back to three at 9-6.
 
In the fourth, with Eastern ahead 12-7, Jake Bollinger scored his 15th of the season, followed by Kiviniemi's third of the game, but the Dutchmen were unable to get any closer and fell 13-9.
 
Inside the Numbers
 - Nick Serrano had a career night and stopped 22 shots, a new career-best for the junior.
 - Frey scored three goals on seven shots and scooped up a pair of ground balls.
 - Kiviniemi also netted a hat trick and picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
 - Fisher scored a goal and added an assist.
 - Mason Klaus and Nick Coyne caused two turnovers apiece.
 - Eastern was led by Nicholas Fanelli who scored six goals and added an assist.
 - The Eagles' Connor Killion scored four goals.
 
Crosse Out Cancer Game
Today, LVC celebrated its eighth-annual Crosse Out Cancer Game. T-shirts were for sale, and the Dutchmen wore one-of-a-kind shorts. Jerseys were auctioned off online will all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
 
Who's Next?
Just two conference games remain on the Dutchmen's 2021 schedule. LVC travels to Grantham on Saturday to battle Messiah University at 2 p.m.
