How It Happened
YORK, Pa. – York College of Pa. scored nine runs in the first inning to fuel a 15-2 win over Lebanon Valley in each team's 2021 opener on Tuesday afternoon. The Flying Dutchmen fell to 0-1, while the Spartans improved to 1-0.

York wasted no time putting up a crooked number in the bottom of the first, beginning with Luke Turner's RBI-single. After Austin Denlinger scored on a passed ball, Jimmy Wiegers singled home Turner to quickly make it 3-0 in favor of the Spartans. Later, Cowan doubled home Capiobianco and Barry, while Jakubek doubled home Cowan and Wiegers making it a 7-0 score. Overall, York exploded for five doubles in the inning and put up nine runs in the first.

In the top of the fourth, Mike Bulgia got the Dutchmen on the board when his single through the left side plated Nico Santoro, but in the bottom of the fifth, Wiley singled home Cowan and Wiegers launched a three-run home run over the right-field fence in the bottom of the sixth the extend York's advantage to 13-1. In the top of the eighth, Santoro scored on a passed ball, but it wasn't nearly enough, as the Dutchmen fell 15-2.
