W. Hockey Stumbles Late Against Stevenson

Stevenson 3, Lebanon Valley 2

How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey team dropped their second matchup with Stevenson by the slimmest of margins in a 3-2 overtime loss. LVC falls to 0-5-1 on the year while Stevenson now improves to 4-1.

The Mustangs would break the ice in this one when Nikki Kendrick drilled a shot from a tough angle into the top-right corner of the goal to put LVC in the early 1-0 hole just 4:50 into the game. With just nine seconds to go in the opening period, the Dutchmen found themselves with a 2-1 advantage that they would capitalize on. Jess Dawe played a beautiful pass from the right wing towards the goal crease where Victoria Scurto one-timed the puck by the Stevenson net-minder to tie the score up 1-1 at the first intermission.

Just under the midway point of the second frame, Aurora Spencer would give LVC the lead on the powerplay. Spencer brought the pick down the left side of the ice into the Mustang zone and was unimpeded before she rifled a wrister into the top of the net giving the Dutchmen a 2-1 lead.

After the game saw nearly 30 minutes in a row of no goals, Trinity Barcless found herself all alone in the slot and was able to bury the opportunity to tie the game up 2-2 with just 2:21 left in regulation. The game would head to overtime and Barcless again would finish an open-ice chance, this time a shorthanded goal as well, and Stevenson took the overtime win over the Dutchmen 3-2.
