Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey | | Mike Freeman

Viola Powers LVC To Win

Lebanon Valley 3, Neumann 2

How It Happened
ASTON, Pa. – Brad Viola totaled three points and Lebanon Valley's Men's Ice Hockey team hung on late to defeat Neumann University 3-2 on Friday night in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 2-0-0, 2-0-0 UCHC, while the Knights fell to 1-1-1, 1-1-1 UCHC.

Viola didn't waste much time lighting the lamp in the opening period, as he found the back of the net just 3:38 into the game off assists from Alex Borowiec and Jered Stevenson for the early 1-0 Dutchmen lead. From there, LVC continued to hold the one-goal lead until Clay Boyd scored on the powerplay for Neumann to even the game at 1-1 with just 5:03 left in the first. That scored held up heading into second-period action.

In the second period, Viola won the opening faceoff and dished it off to Stevenson, who ripped one from the right side over the shoulder of the Knights' netminder and into the back of the net just five seconds into the middle period to make it a 2-1 advantage for the visiting Dutchmen. Later in the second, Viola extended LVC's lead to two when he scored from Artem Mikhaylov and Zach Balodis.

Just over three minutes after Viola made it 3-1, Neumann's Evan Hoey netted an unassisted goal with 4:05 to go in regulation, cutting the Dutchmen's lead to one at 3-2. Then, with 1:06 left in the game and Neumann's net empty, LVC was whistled for a penalty, giving the Knights a 6-on-4 advantage. Henry Burns made a key stop in net with six seconds to go, and the Dutchmen's penalty-killing unit was able to stave off a game-tying goal and LVC hung on for the narrow 3-2 victory.
