Kingsbury Reaches Milestone In Split With Hood

ANNVILLE Pa. – The Dutchmen used a gem of a performance from Kyle Kingsbury in order to secure a. split with Hood College on Sunday afternoon. LVC now sits at 5-3 while the Blazers are now 2-4.

In the first inning, Kingsbury navigated a pair of hit-by-pitches to keep the Blazers off the board. In the inning, Kingsbury picked up a pair of strikeouts, giving him 100 punchouts for his career. In the bottom half of the frame,
LVC manufactured some offense and scored a pair of runs without registering a hit. Bryan Towers led off by reaching on a Hood error followed by a Conor Smith walk and Chris DeClerico HBP to load the bags. Towers would score on a wild pitch and later DeClerico would come home via a passed ball to give the Dutchmen the quick 2-0 lead.

On the bump, Kingsbury continued to roll all game as he tossed seven excellent innings of shutout ball while compiling nine strikeouts and allowing just two hits. He would get more insurance runs in the bottom of the third when Michael Leri launched a moon shot of a homer to left field to double the LVC lead to 4-0. A Ryan Murphy RBI-single in the eighth would officially put away the Blazers and the LVC bullpen shut the door to complete the 5-0 shutout victory.

Inside The Numbers
  • Kyle Kingsbury was dominant all afternoon while going seven strong shutout frames of two-hit ball with nine punchouts. He recorded his 100th career strikeout in the first inning.
  • Michael Leri recorded his first home run of the season with his two-run shot in the third.
  • LVC recorded their first shutout of the 2021 season.
  • Hood's Ryan D'Allesandro was impressive out of the pen tossing 4.1 innings allowing just one run and striking out ten Dutchmen.

Hood would get on the board in the first inning after being shutout in the first nine innings of the afternoon. The Blazers took advantage of an LVC miscue that brought home Nick Rampone for the early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, LVC would score on a Hood error to even the score. Chris DeClarico would single to right followed by Bryan Towers coming home to score on a throwing error to tie the game back up 1-1.

The teams would once again match each other, this time in the third inning. In the top half, Andrew Wenner singled to bring home Jacob Saylor to give Hood a 2-1 lead. The advantage was short-lived as LVC matched the Blazers with a run of their own in the bottom of the third with DeClarico scoring on a passed ball.

Hood would regain the lead again the top of the sixth. James DeProspero would reach base with a two-out single and would then come in to score on the next batter when Saylor doubled to give Hood a 3-2 lead. LVC would answer in the seventh inning with a Mick Bafunno sac fly followed by a Luke Blair RBI-double in the eighth to give the Dutchmen a late 4-3 lead.

The Blazers would start their ninth-inning rally with back-to-back singles by Stephen Sommer and Jordan Patterson, the two would later advance to second and third via wild pitch to set the table for the Hood hitters. The next two Blazer batters would be retired via pop out and strikeout with the two runners still in scoring position. Joe Monteleone would come up with the clutch two-out, two-run single to right to give Hood the 5-4 lead headed into the bottom of the ninth. LVC would threaten as they had the game-tying run on base but would be unable to score and fell 5-4 in the nightcap.

Inside The Numbers
  • Chris DeClarico led LVC with three hits, including a double. Michael Leri and Shane Stossel each finished with multi-hit games as well.
  • Stephen Sommer finished with three hits for Hood while Joe Manteleone led the Blazers with two RBI, both coming on the go-ahead hit in the ninth.
  • Tanner Rock had a solid start for LVC with five innings allowing just four hits and one earned run.
  • Jordan Patterson tossed six innings allowing two runs, none earned, and striking out eight for Hood.
  • Both teams picked up ten hits for the game.
Who's Next?
LVC returns to conference action next weekend when they play Messiah University. The Dutchmen will host the Falcons in a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon at McGill Field.
